The sixth of September, 2008 saw Two Cents of Hope host its annual event,Trishna at Stewart theater,on the NC State University Campus. The event surpassed all expectations and proved to be a phenomenal success.

Trishna'08 comprised two hours of enthralling performances, and mouth-watering food was served by Udupi Cafe during the break. An audience of 480 people attended the event, which featured an exciting line-up of performances including the 'Hip-Hop Reggaeton', Salsa, Belly Dance by Khahari and 'Jewels of Hoop Bliss'.

The event showcased traditional Indian dances, such as 'Botu'(a form of Odissi dance) and Kathak(a north-Indian dance) as well as "Bollywood" fusion dance - ' A Bollywood Dhamaka' and 'Mahamaya'.Trishna also showcased cultures from around the world. The audience was transported from the exotic land of China with its soulful tunes and graceful choreography, captured by 'Shao Duo Li', to the lilting melodies of Ireland, harmonized by the NC State Irish Music session. 'Khahari Collaborative' captivated the audience with a belly dance from the alluring Middle east, while the Hip-Hop Reggaeton - a fusion dance-had them on their feet!

Among the performances was a presentation by youth members of Hope Avenue(a partner non-profit organization), as well as a sizzling salsa performance set to a popular Indian 'Bollywood' number.A fitting finale to the grand evening was 'Jewels of Hoop Bliss',performing a fire and light show. Julia Hartsell held the audience spellbound, spinning to a  techno-track with her hoops set afire!

Two Cents of Hope has been organizing Trishna since 2006 and it is hosted in September each year. A hundred percent of all proceeds support the education of the underprivileged. Trishna'08 raised a whopping $5843 to benefit projects for the year 2008-2009.

On September 16th 2007 we conducted our annual cultural event – ‘Trishna’. The event was a grand success; there were more than 25 performers, it was attended by 550 people and we raised almost $7500!

There were programs ranging from Indian Classical and Fusion to Bollywood dances. There were musicals presented by tiny tots and scripted plays. The audience was enthralled by bands playing the latest pop numbers to foot tapping Bollywood cabarets. Click here to see the entire program brochure
